Course content

Requirements

Bachelor-level knowledge of molecular biology, chemistry and math.

Objectives

This course investigates the fundamental concepts and methods for the study of the structures of biological macromolecules with a focus on the implications for drug development and design.

Programme

Methods for the study of the three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecules.
Introduction to biocrystallography.
Diffraction theory.
The phase problem and methods for its solution.
Experimental methods in biocrystallography.
NMR spectroscopy
Multidimensional NMR
Other methods for structural biology (electron microscopy, mass spectrometry)
Structure-based drug design
Examples of the application of the structural biology methods for drug development
